"10 more minutes until naptime," I said to Brynley this afternoon at 1:50.
"Thunder!!" she said in return as we heard a low rumbling, but the sky was filled with sunshine.
Then the whole house started to shake. A few thoughts ran through my head at once...a truck crashing, a plane, an earthquake. Roman slept through the whole thing. Bryn and I ran around the house looking out windows and chanting, "Earthquake, earthquake!". (B also called it a volcano...haha). It woke Rob up from a dead sleep as well.
My mother-in-law called and said she had felt it too...that is when I knew it was real! Brynley & Roman experienced their very first earthquake today. In Virginia. Crazy!! The news is saying it was a 5.9 on the Richter scale and based out of Mineral, VA (about 80 miles from where we live).
By the third week in July, Virginia was hit with a stifling heat wave. It was so hot and humid that we stopped going swimming (I'm not sure Roman or Mommy could stand the heat)! However, from May through the second week of July, we were still playing in the kiddie pool all the time. These pictures are from early July.
I bought Brynley some plastic funnels to use as pool toys. I also showed her how to fill them with water and plug the bottom with her finger so she could bring them across the deck and splash some unsuspecting dry person with water. Well, I actually just showed her how to plug the funnel hole. What she did with that knowledge was totally up to her.
I was her first victim...Daddy her second...
She thought it was pretty darn funny.
Even Roman was amused:
If we weren't swimming, we were at the playground:
