Summer fun

By the third week in July, Virginia was hit with a stifling heat wave. It was so hot and humid that we stopped going swimming (I'm not sure Roman or Mommy could stand the heat)! However, from May through the second week of July, we were still playing in the kiddie pool all the time. These pictures are from early July.

I bought Brynley some plastic funnels to use as pool toys. I also showed her how to fill them with water and plug the bottom with her finger so she could bring them across the deck and splash some unsuspecting dry person with water. Well, I actually just showed her how to plug the funnel hole. What she did with that knowledge was totally up to her.

I was her first victim...Daddy her second...

She thought it was pretty darn funny.

Even Roman was amused:

If we weren't swimming, we were at the playground:

Sponge balls!

In mid-July, Brynley and I made sponge balls to play with outside. The idea was to have a water/sponge ball fight with Mommy & Daddy, but she didn't quite get the hang of that so we just played with the new toys in her swimming pool.

As you can see from the pictures, she loved the toys even before we got them outside.

This boy...

....has stolen my heart.
....has the cutest dimple on his right cheek.
....has a huge smile and a silent laugh.

....has traveled to two states...and in that traveling, has been in six states total. Not bad for a two month old.
....doesn't fuss much...hungry or tired, that's about it.
....tolerates his sister pinching his cheeks over and over again.

....weighed in at 11lbs 5 oz at his two month checkup.
....kicks his legs like crazy.
....sucks his thumb and fingers.
....is starting to fit into his 3 month clothes.
....still has really long toes and small feet.
....likes his swing and bouncy seat

....is loved beyond words!

Anatomy of a black eye

Life with a toddler is always interesting and unpredictable...sometimes joyful and sometimes heartbreaking. On July 9th, Brynley took a nasty spill on our front sidewalk and didn't put her hands out to break her fall. She landed directly on her cheekbone. After many tears (Mommy & baby), we continued on our way to visit Melinda & her family. That could have been the end of the story. The next morning, my sweet girl woke up with a black eye.

Since I'm behind on blogging (and writing this post on August 7th), I can tell you that the boo-boo is still not completely healed. I am going to ask the pediatrician about it during Roman's two month checkup this week.
I chronicled the first 10 days of the black eye. Just looking at these photos breaks my heart, but as you can see, Bryn was just as happy as ever. She even enjoyed putting "boo-boo medicine" on her cheek several times a day! She often requests "Mommy, kiss you" which means she wants me to kiss her and when I kiss her boo-boo, she says, "Mommy, I feel better!" Sweet girl!

A day full of adventure!

On a Friday back in July (7/8 to be exact), Rob & I had a fun filled day with our littles.

It started off when I took Brynley to the playground which is one of Brynley's favorite things right now. (Her other favorite thing to do is go to "Minda's house"). We met up with Melinda & her kids there and I chased Brynley around with Roman in the stroller for a solid two hours.

After the playground, we met up with our friends Trung & Virginia for lunch. They have two little boys a bit older than Brynley and we had the pleasure of meeting Virginia's brother as well. Our lunch conversations were great, but the kids were getting antsy and we still wanted to spend time together. We were going to go to a local park, but it started raining before we could get there. We redirected ourselves to the mall where there USED to be an indoor playplace once to find out it was gone. We ended up at the bounce house and the kids had an absolute blast!

I wish I had taken more pictures of the day, but I guess we were having too much fun. Here are the few I managed to snag:

One month

On July 5th, Roman turned one month old.

At one month old, Roman wakes every 2-3 hours at night to eat. He eats quickly and gets right back to sleeping. This is a blessing to me!
